2008 Atlantic Grand Prix Series Supplemental Rules

Rules The following rules and regulations supplement the AMA Amateur Competition Rules, and are solely applicable to Atlantic Grand Prix events. All inquiries or questions regarding applicability and enforcement should be directed to AGP Productions, Inc. All decisions by AGP Productions are final.

GENERAL RULES:

1

All riders are responsible for attending Riders Meeting.

2 NO Spectator or Pit riding permitted!
3 Warm-up riding is limited to the start area and only after an official has given permission and the rider has registered for the event.
4 Riders must not exceed 1st gear idle when traveling to and from their pit area and must always wear a helmet.
5 Riders must register for the race before riding their machine anywhere.
6 Riders will receive a barcode and a colored helmet tag and a handlebar tag upon registration. The barcode must be placed on the lower left chin side of the helmet; the colored helmet tag must be placed on the back of the helmet; and the handlebar tag must be placed on the left clutch side of the handlebar. Helmet tags cannot be trimmed to less than 3".
7 Riders are responsible for the actions of their entire pit crew.
8 Radios are permitted between pit crew members, but not with riders.
9 Rider Contact: Deliberate ramming, blocking, or intentional contact with another rider may be cause for penalty.
10 Rider Conduct: Unsportsman-like conduct may result in disqualification.
11 Team Tactics: Team tactics include blocking, allowing another rider to pass or exchanging machines in order for another rider to continue the race. Riders involved may be disqualified from the race and the next scheduled race.
12 Riders will be disqualified for riding a AGP course during the 7 days prior to the first day of the event.
13 Bike riders, including youth, may only enter one bike race per weekend, with the exception that youth Big Wheel riders may participate in the Sunday morning Big Wheel class, which is a non-championship class.
14 Riders under the age of 18 must provide a photo I.D. with proof of age at time of registration and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
15 ATV riders must be 16 years of age or older to race.
16 Big Wheel and bike riders must be 12 years of age or older to race.
17 Riders may not be serviced or pitted near the finish area.

PRO ONLY:
1

Pro bike riders are not eligible to race the ATV event.

2 All Pro riders must gas in the designated Pro pit area only.
3 Pro bike riders are prohibited from inspecting the race course prior to pro bike race day.
4 Pro riders will line up based upon the current top 10 overall points standings. Remaining pro riders will draw for starting position at the time of registration.
5 Pro riders must stay in the designated Pro lane at the finish scoring area.
6 Race numbers must be clearly visible on the rider's back.

RIDER ELIGIBILITY AND CLASSIFICATION:

XC 1 Pro Bike: (the following riders are required to race Pro)

a Top 10 overall riders from previous year's AGPS, unless eligible for an age class.
b Top five overall riders from previous year's AMA National Enduro, National Hare Scrambles, and National Hare & Hound Series.
c ISDE Trophy Team members or riders who earned Gold Medals at the previous year's ISDE.
d All regional ranked AA riders in both Enduro and Hare Scrambles.
NETRA, WNYOA, ECEA, VCHSS as well as all others.
e All current AMA Pro Racing license holders who qualified for a National Motocross or Supercross in the current or previous year.
2 XC 1 Pro ATV
a Top 10 overall riders from previous year's AGPS are required to race Pro, unless eligible for an age class.
b The following riders are eligible, but not required, to race Pro: riders placing 11-25 overall the previous year; top 10 AGP Pro Class riders from the previous year; or by promoter discretion.
c Production rules apply.
3 "A" Classes
a All riders in the top 10 overall ranking in any regional or state hare scrambles series.
NOTE: A RIDERS that wish to compete for cash purse must run PRO AM.
b All "B" Class Champions, and "B" riders ranked second or third in the previous year's AGPS who won at least four races.
c All riders that have ever qualified for the ISDE.
d All riders that have an "A" ranking in any other off-road series.
e Age Divisions - "B" riders who won four or more races the previous year.
4 "B" Classes
a All riders that do not qualify for the Pro, "A" or "C" classes.
b All "C" riders ranked in the top five of their class and earned at least 50% of the points earned by the class champion, in the previous year's AGPS.  Ranking is based on year-end series points and not the banquet awards.
c All riders that have a "B" ranking in any other off-road series.
d A "B" rider placing in the top 20 overall at any given event will be moved to the "A" class the following event.
5 "C" Classes
  Novice riders not ranked in the top five in their class in any other off-road series.
6 Big Wheel Class
  The Youth Big Wheel classes are AGP classes.  Youth riders may participate in both Big Wheel events.
7 Age Divisions
  A Youth Bike rider's age on January 1 will determine his age for the year. All other age divisions will be determined as of the date of the event.
8 Changing Classes
  A rider may petition to move to a lower classification based on class finishes and time differences, if the rider has not raced more than four times in the upper classification.

MACHINE ELIGIBILITY AND CLASSIFICATION:
NOTE: FINAL CLASSIFICATION WILL BE POSTED JAN 1 2007

Pro (ATV) Production rules apply (0-525cc).  OEM motor and matching frame combination model required. Engine modifications, frame reinforcements and frame modifications to permit longer rear-wheel travel are permitted.  Fuel tanks are limited to a 4 gallon maximum capacity.

2 Open (bike) - 201cc and over single cylinder bike engine, so long as the cylinder is stamped with the correct engine displacement.
3 Open (ATV) - 266cc and over ATV engine, so long as the cylinder is stamped with the correct engine displacement.
4 Stock (ATV) - May change front shocks, tires, wheels, throttle assembly, axle, handlebars, grips, skid plates, plastics and seat covers, including those that add traction, but may not change seat height. May add bead locks, nerf bars, foot peg extensions, and open or closed end, metal or plastic hand guards. May not add steering stabilizers or air filter sleeves. May not add front shock reservoirs, or modify or remove front shock reservoirs from machines that come equipped with them. Riders may change front shocks on ATVs that do not come with rebuildable stock front shocks, but they may not replace the front shocks on ATVs that do come with rebuildable units stock (like the YFZ450). Only machines that come equipped with front reservoirs stock may run them. All motor components and rear suspension must remain stock. Aftermarket replacement parts may be used so long as they do not improve motor performance, add travel to the suspension, or have a reservoir. Example: must have stock pipe, silencer, carburetor, air box, air cleaner, rear shocks, etc....
5 Sport (ATV) - Must have OEM motor and matching frame combination model, and be restricted to the following models: Honda 250X, 250EX and 300EX; Kawasaki Mojave 250 and Lakota 300; Polaris Trail Blazer; Suzuki Quad Sport 230, 250 and Z-250; and Yamaha Blaster and Warrior. Modifications are permitted. Maximum engine displacement is 350cc.
6 Utility (ATV) - A 4 wheel or 2 wheel drive shaft or chain driven automatic transmission/clutch ATV that comes with racks or rack availability as standard equipment.
7 Utility Unlimited (ATV) - A 4 wheel or 2 wheel drive shaft or chain-driven automatic transmission/clutch ATV that does not have racks or rack availability as standard equipment.
8 Youth ATV:  Production rules apply to production classes.  Stock class rules apply to limited class; aftermarket exhaust permitted.

EQUIPMENT:

 

The AMA Equipment Standards List in Chapter 3 of the Amateur Competition Rule Book applies. In addition, the following apply:

1 Machines must have silencers. Machines may be tested by officials at any time prior to, during or after the event. The AGPS sound limit is 98 dbs.
2 The machine a rider leaves the starting line on is the official machine of the rider for that event, and he may not switch during the event.
3 No rider is allowed to carry gasoline except inside his machine's fuel tank.
4 All machines must have a working kill switch (bikes) or tether cord (ATV).
5 All machines and rider helmets must be taken through tech inspection prior to racing for the purpose of inspecting barcode placement, number assignment, and contingency eligibility. Safety equipment and machine eligibility are the sole responsibility of the rider.
6 No horns, bells or other sound devices are permitted on machines.

COURSE:

1

A AGP course may include trails, footpaths, roads, hills, motocross tracks, or any type of terrain which can be negotiated by a bike or ATV.

2 The course will be open to inspection on Friday at 3:00 p.m. (with the exception of Pro bikes). Participants are permitted to walk or bicycle the course only.
3 Marking, cutting, tampering with or otherwise changing the course in any manner is strictly prohibited. Course modifications may only be made by an official.
4 Only registered racers and officials may ride the course during the race.
5 If a rider leaves the course for any reason he must re-enter where he left.
6 Riders must remain on the marked course. The marked course is within 25 feet of race arrows.  However, riders must stay within the confines of the following markers:  double arrows posted on both sides of the trail, ribbons, signs, stakes, hay bales, barrels, etc..  Furthermore, riders may not cut to the inside of a white pole corner marker.
7 Riders encountering a traffic jam or bottleneck may go more than 25 feet off the course to get around the bottleneck only. However, the rider must re-enter the course as soon as possible, and upon approaching this section the next lap, must ride the original arrowed section if the track is clear. If the original marking devices are knocked down, the rider must stay on the original marked course. A "bottleneck" is a section of the track that becomes impassable for any reason, with the exception of check points.

START PROCEDURE:

1

Starting procedures will be explained at Riders Meeting.

2 Riders, pit crew members, machines and equipment are not permitted on the starting line until authorized by the race official.
3 A, B & C class riders shall line up on their assigned starting row on a first come basis when directed by the race official.
4 All starts are dead engine. The blue flag will signal all riders to turn off their engines.
5 A "10 Seconds" signal will be given before the green flag is thrown.  At the "10 Seconds" signal, all crew members must step away.
6 Any rider taking off with the wrong row will be penalized.
7 Any rider that misses the start of their class must enter the race course at the starting line and complete the start chute.
8 All handlebar tags must be punch marked by a race official before the start.

SCORING:

1

Riders must come to a complete stop at all check point and scoring areas. "No Passing" zones will be posted at check points. The section from the checkered flag to the scoring area is a "No Passing" zone.

2 It is the rider's responsibility to make sure he has all scans/punches. Missing scans/punches may result in a penalty.
3 A rider will be penalized for running into an official.
4 Awards are given at the rate of 1 per 3 riders, with a minimum of 5 awards per class. To win an award, a rider must complete 50% of the laps of the class winner.
5 Racers have 50 minutes to finish the race after the overall winner takes the checkered flag.
6 Riders may get mechanical assistance on the course from their pit crew or spectators, but must finish the race under the machine's own power or by the rider physically.
7 No towing allowed. If a machine is towed in from the course, that lap will not count.
8 The top three overall riders, as well as any other rider requested by an official to do so, will leave their machines at a designated impound area until released.
9 A rider may question the scores within the 30-minute period following the posting of the final results. After 30 minutes, awards will be given out.
10 Protests must be in writing and comply with the AMA Amateur Competition Rule Book, Protest Procedure.
11 Penalties will be assessed at the discretion of the official based on the severity of the offense, and may include one or more of the following:
  position(s), lap(s), time penalty, or disqualification.

TIES

Ties for the overall championship will be broken by the most first place finishes, then by the most second place finishes if necessary. Ties for class championship will be broken by the most first place finishes, then by the best finish in the final race if necessary. Ties for other class positions will be broken by the best finish in the final race.


Atlantic Grand Prix Numbers

The electronic scoring system provides a complete overall race finish for each event. Points will be accumulated for AGP Number assignment and can be viewed as a gage toward overall ranking for the year. Points for APG Numbers are awarded based on the overall finish in each event.  Final AGP Numbers for afternoon riders will be awarded to the top 20 overall first, regardless of number of events entered, then to remaining afternoon riders based on overall finish in at least 9 races and as many as 11. Numbers 111 through 115, and 174 are reserved for visiting champions. Final AGP Numbers for morning riders will start at number 201 and will be based on overall finish in at least 9 races and as many as 11. Youth Bike AGP Numbers will be awarded based on overall finishes in 7 races.  Youth ATV AGP Numbers will be awarded based on overall finishes in 4 races.  The minimum number of events does not have to be in the same class. The Saturday Big Wheel class does not count towards number of events for a Youth rider.  A rider with an earned number has the option to reserve another number.
